Quantum systems that interact with an environment (bath) are referred to as open quantum systems. The study of the interactions between such systems and the bath is of fundamental interest, since these interactions can significantly change the dynamics of the system itself and result in dissipation. Open quantum systems have attracted research attention because of their exploitation in a number of applications including quantum optics and quantum information.
This Collection brings together original research in the field of open quantum systems, looking at the theory of open quantum systems as well as their experimental implementation.
