Editor's choice: traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an injury to the brain caused by a trauma to the head. Injuries can range from mild concussions to severe permanent brain damage. Data from surveys of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that in the United States, there occurred around 223,050 TBI-related hospitalizations in 2018 and 60,611 TBI-related deaths in 2019.

This collection  highlights research recently published in Scientific Reports on the mechanisms underlying neurological damage, potential strategies to prevent it, and the development of diagnostic and imaging techniques for TBI.
