Celebrating 10th anniversary

Message from the Editor

This year marks the 10th anniversary of NPG Asia Materials. The journal was originally founded as a collaborative effort between Tokyo Institute of Technology and then Nature Publishing Group under the leadership of the founding editor, professor Hideo Takezoe. In April 2008 the journal started publishing highlights of the best materials research produced in the Asia-Pacific region, and has since evolved into a full scientific open-access journal. The need for Asia-based materials science journal has since been more and more obvious as the growth of research output from the region clearly surpasses the rest of the world. Currently, the journal publishes top-quality original articles and review papers not only from the Asia-Pacific region but includes important contributions from European and North-American science as well.
With the 10th anniversary we have prepared several innovations that will hopefully engage the materials science community and further reinvigorate the journal. The Advisory Board of the journal will be renewed with active members working across the main fields of materials science. In addition to the current article types we will start publishing perspective articles, which are brief personal reviews and visions of a materials science field or area. Further, the website of the journal is in proces of reorganizeation for easier navigation, including featured articles with graphics provided by the authors. All these changes will hopefully help to further spread the visibility of the journal which is currently still mostly limited to the region. Increasing readership and authorship to the non-Asian part of the world, and making NPG Asia Materials a truly international journal with a status reflecting the scope and quality of materials research in Asia will be the goal for the next years, and we hope to achieve this goal with the help of our authors, reviewers and readers.
