Editor´s Choice: ovarian cancer

Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer in women, causing over 180 000 deaths annually worldwide. While surgery and chemotherapy are still the most common forms of treatment, their success is highly dependent on the type of cancer and its origin. In addition, patients often develop resistance to treatment and recurrence is frequent, leading to poor outcomes. Recent research however has led to the development of new targeted therapies, adjusted to the different types of ovarian cancer. Together with innovative diagnosis and prevention methods, these breakthroughs are likely to contribute to increase patients´ survival rate.
