Mental health disorders appear to be on the rise globally. Particularly affected by this trend are adolescents - an age group which is perhaps more exposed to the pressures of social media than any other, and has recently experienced great disruption to their daily lives due to school closures and isolation from peers. Mental health issues can put great pressure on young people’s development by negatively impacting interpersonal relationships, educational performance, and physical health. Adolescent mental health is at the forefront of psychological research, as researchers focus their efforts toward understanding the triggers and possible ways to counteract the rise of conditions such as anxiety, depression, and eating disorders.
This Collection welcomes work on various aspects of adolescent mental health - including factors influencing development of mental health disorders, consequences and comorbidities as well as possible treatment approaches.
