Oral cancer is the sixth most common malignancy and has one of the lowest survival rates, often due to late diagnosis. Some estimate that if caught early, survival rates can be as much as 90 per cent, and without it tumbles to 50 per cent.
Knowing the signs and symptoms of the disease and looking for them has to be second nature. Cases are approaching 7,000 in the UK, with deaths exceeding 2,000.
