Types of articles

Please note: all submissions should be sent to the Editor, David Westgarth, at bdjinpractice@bda.org or david.westgarth@bda.org.

Letters
Our letters section provides the space for individual news, rights of reply, views and opinions in the shortest form. Letters should be submitted to the editor via email at bdjinpractice@bda.org.

Opinion
Our opinion articles look to engage the views and opinions of people that are open to debate and discussion within the profession. This section will keep you aware of what people are thinking in dentistry today, introduce differing views for debate, and our short, sharp and punchy reads.

In depth
We take a subject, open it up and discuss it in depth. While our sister publication, the BDJ, focuses on largely clinical topics, we like to delve into anything and everything that is relevant to practising dentists on a daily basis.

Perspectives
Our perspectives pieces offer prospective authors an opportunity to take their opinions that one step further and go into more detail. They could be what you think of NHS dentistry, private dentistry, mixed and capitation plans, all the way through to articles on how best to cope – mentally and emotionally – in the profession today.

About the BDA

The British Dental Association (BDA) is the professional association and trade union for dentists in the United Kingdom, and was founded in 1880. As an organisation that is owned entirely by its members and with no external shareholders, the BDA is able to focus solely on its mission to promote the interests of its members; advance the science, arts and ethics of dentistry; and improve the nation's oral health.

The British Dental Association (BDA) is the voice of dentists and dental students in the UK and have been protecting dentists since 1880. As a trade union and professional body, the BDA represents dental students and all fields of dentistry including general practice, community dental services, the armed forces, hospitals, academia, public health and research. They promote their interests and provide members with the support and services they need to succeed.

Springer Nature also publishes the British Dental Journal, our open-access journal BDJ Open, Evidence-Based Dentistry, BDJ Team, and BDJ Student on behalf of the BDA.
