The presence of bacteria and extracellular polymeric substances can induce particle/particle and particle/wall slippery interactions.

These slippery interactions can permit translational or rotational movement (the scheme on the right) thus preventing the formation of arches that can appear for shear-rigid interaction (the scheme on the left).
