Two possible electronic configurations with finite and zero spin moment in case of a dimer with three (t2g) orbitals and two electrons per site.

It is supposed that there are two different sets of orbitals in the system: c orbitals (green) with larger bonding-antibonding splitting, given by hopping parameter tc and d orbitals (blue). If hopping for one of the d orbitals is much larger than for another td2td1, when nonmagnetic state is realized in the system.
