Sizes of successive bins are equal to successive positive powers of 2 and count in each bin is normalized by dividing by a bin width. The dotted line in the graph has slope α = −2 and it is calculated using the method of maximum likelihood13. The existence of the underlying power law is established by calculating p-value using Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic for smaller sizes of the same network (see Methods).
