The British Endodontic Society (BES) is holding its 2017 regional meeting in Edinburgh on 17-18 November at the Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa. Hosted by BES President Professor B. S. Chong, the two-day programme is set to engage, educate and inspire delegates who are booking from all over the world.

The theme of the meeting, 'Endodontic infections and systemic health', aims to explore the possible links between oral inflammatory processes and general well-being.

The event includes a range of masterclasses, presentations from key speakers, a trade exhibition, networking opportunities and conference dinner.

Friday's programme starts with a choice of four masterclasses: 'Can you see it? Can you measure it? Can you fix it?' by Professor Nick Chandler (NZ); 'Root canal instrumentation – current challenges and future directions' by Professor Michael Hülsmann (Germany); 'Professional regulation, fitness to practise and consent – great expectations?' by Dr Stephen Henderson (UK); and 'CBCT in endodontics – the current status' by Dr Jimmy Makdissi (UK).

Following lunch, Professor Martin Thornhill (UK) will be giving two lectures: 'Focal infection theory – endodontics in the dock?' and 'Antibiotic prophylaxis and endocarditis – what a NICE mess!'.

Friday's conference dinner, subsidised by the BES, will be held at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. There will be a private viewing of the Dental Collection, one of the finest in the UK, at the Surgeons Hall Museum, a drinks reception and traditional Ceilidh entertainment.

The Saturday programme of five presentations will be facilitated by a team mainly from Finland: 'Systemic diseases and endodontology: an endodontist's perspective' by Professor Leo Tjäderhane; 'Oral infections and cardiovascular diseases: what can we learn from epidemiology?' by Dr John Liljestrand; 'The mechanisms behind chronic infection-induced cardiovascular diseases' by Adjunct Professor Pirkko Pussinen; 'How oral infections may affect systemic health?' by Professor Jukka Meurman and 'Antibiotics in dental treatment – a comprehensive overview' by Dr Riina Rautemaa-Richardson.

The event is important to the BES as it continues to promote and advance endodontology to ensure that the dental and general health of the nation is both maintained and improved.

Participants in the BES regional meeting will qualify for ten hours of verifiable CPD. For the full programme, visit: www.britishendodonticsociety.org.uk/events.
