'A practice without a diagnocam is like a practice without a dental chair!'

    KaVo's DIAGNOcam is the new caries identification device that enables you to diagnose caries at an early stage and treat it preventively or minimally invasively.

    How does it work?

    DIAGNOcam uses Digital Imaging Fiberoptic Transillumination (DIFOTI) technology. This means the structures of the tooth become light conductors. A digital video camera captures the context and transmits to a live monitor. Carious lesions and cracks block the light transmission and become visible as dark spots. This is radiation-free and can be repeated as required.

    X-ray diagnosis remains important. DIAGNOcam is a convenient way to verify and supplement your X-ray diagnosis and is particularly useful when performing diagnosis on children or pregnant women.

    How can DIAGNOcam help you?

    • Comprehensive caries diagnosis with superior quality images (Table 1) – DIAGNOcam provides an X-ray-free imaging method for early caries identification that is not possible with other devices. There is no proximal overlapping as with X-rays.

    • Ideal for patient communication and monitoring – images can be displayed on screen in real-time and used to explain your proposed treatment plan. Images and video sequences can be assigned to each individual tooth and edited. You can also save and print out the images and use them for regular checks in long-term monitoring.

    • Easily integrate into your practice - DIAGNOcam is easy and quick to use; simply place the tip over a tooth and take your images or videos. There is no preliminary dental cleaning required. The VDDS interface allows for communication with different software and the TWAIN interface allows for easy integration with X-ray software.

    Dr Ihsan Khaliq, Bawtry Dental Aesthetic and Implant Clinic, has been using DIAGNOcam in his practice for several months and says it 'is an excellent tool for helping me to identify caries at an early stage without the use of a radiograph, therefore helping to minimise radiation exposure to myself, my team and my patients.     Scientific studies

    A planned in vivo diagnostic study directed by PD Dr Jan Kuehnisch was conducted at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich over ten months. The present scientific examination data of 85 patients concludes that the DIAGNOcam procedure can be judged as equivalent in the detection of proximal dentine lesions when compared to the conventional diagnosis with X-rays.1
