Extreme rainfall events can cause flooding in large areas, resulting in severe societal impacts in affected regions. Understanding the spatial dependencies of floods, that is, the extent to which floods occurring in one specific location are related to floods in other locations, is essential to flood risk management. However, little is known about how the spatial dependencies of floods are affected when rainfall extremes occur in highly urbanized catchments with a high degree of impervious surfaces.
