Schematic comparison of the realistic shape of interaction potential VR(r) between Rydberg-dressed atoms (2) and the simplified rectangular box potential V(r) given by (3). In the latter case, the long-range part is completely neglected while the short-range part is replaced by a constant energy shift. Substantial differences between the two models are visible only in the vicinity of the critical radius Rc.
