Analysis of the wear tracks formed in Ov and castor oil. Analysis of the wear track formed after the 100 °C tribotest of sliding steel surfaces lubricated with Ov oil (a) and castor oil (b). Raman 2D map of the iron oxide peak (at ~675 cm−1) of Ov oil (c) indicates very little oxidation of the steel surface during sliding in contrast to castor oil (d). Detailed EDS analysis of oxygen, O, and carbon, C, for the wear tracks formed during lubrication with Ov oil (e) and castor oil (f) further confirms the better oxidation resistance and protection properties of Ov oil.
