Predation ability of Phytoseiulus persimilis. Twenty adult female spider mites were placed on a potted Phaseolus vulgaris plant for 24 h, resulting in oviposition of approximately 120 eggs (Mint: −; P. persimilis: −). Two adult females of P. persimilis were placed on a potted Phaseolus vulgaris plant with nearby candy mint or spearmint plantlets (4 g fresh weight) or not (−), and the intact eggs were counted after 48 h. Data represent the means and standard errors (n = 4–5). The means indicated by different small letters are significantly different based on an ANOVA with post hoc Tukey’s HSD (P < 0.05).
