(b,c) Same as in (a), but for the 500 hPa height and storm track activity. Storm track activity is measured as the meridional eddy heat flux at the 850 hPa level. To extract atmospheric transient eddies, a high-pass-filter with a cut-off period of 8 days is applied to daily-mean data. In (ac) values in CTRL are denoted by contours.
