Human cataract disintegrating compounds identified by ex vivo turbidity screening. The disaggregation of human cataract samples was monitored by absorbance measurement at λ = 340 nm and 37 °C. Cataract solutions were incubated with increasing concentrations of (A) 25-hydroxycholesterol, (B) doxycycline, and (C) rosmarinic acid in triplicates, for two days, and the turbidity was measured daily. All three compounds reduced cataract turbidity in a dose-dependent and significant manner.
