Fashion houses are starting to experiment with bioreactor-made leather, an animal-friendly option that also aims to help save the planet.

“We’ve definitely seen an influx in the last couple of years of biotech companies that are founded in the fashion and materials space,” says Fiona Mischel, director of international outreach at Built with Biology (formerly SynBioBeta) in London. “Their goal is to remake the fashion industry with sustainable materials,” she says.
