Loss of hypothalamic melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) could underlie reduced food intake and weight loss in individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), according to a new study in a mouse model and human brain tissue. The findings, published in Acta Neuropathologica, provide insights into the mechanisms of metabolic dysregulation in ALS and identify the MCH pathway as a potential therapeutic target.
