Reporting in Cell, Zhu et al. describe a role for regulatory T (Treg) cells in mediating symptoms of opioid withdrawal through effects on neuronal synapses. They also outline a mechanism by which opioid use can increase the access of these Treg cells to the central nervous system (CNS).
