Tissue-specific epigenomics of resident memory CD8+ T cells

Memory CD8+ T cells are highly heterogeneous and can be parsed into circulatory T (TCIRC) cells and tissue-resident memory T (TRM) cells based on migratory properties. Although many studies have identified specific transcriptional and phenotypic features of TRM cells, it remains poorly understood how epigenetics can influence CD8+ T cell differentiation and tissue residency.

In this preprint (not peer-reviewed), Buquicchio et al. used single-cell transposase-accessible chromatin with sequencing (scATAC-seq) to examine the open chromatin landscape over the course of memory CD8+ T cell development in mouse models of infection with lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus or herpes simplex virus type 1.
