Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs) are characterized by limited T cell infiltration, which may contribute to their resistance to checkpoint blockade therapies. By contrast, PDACs have extensive macrophage infiltration and thus macrophages may be a more relevant therapeutic target. During pancreatitis, which is often a precursor of PDAC, the pancreas is also highly infiltrated by macrophages, but the roles of different macrophage lineages in pancreatitis and PDAC have been poorly explored.
