The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) causes glandular fever and has been associated with many other human diseases, including lymphoproliferative disorders and autoimmune conditions. Two recent reports in Science and Nature provide further evidence that EBV infection may promote the development of multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disorder characterized by destruction of the myelin sheath of the central nervous system (CNS).
