Tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs) and exhausted CD8+ T cells are immunosuppressive cell types in the tumour microenvironment (TME), the frequency of which correlates with poor prognosis and resistance to immunotherapies such as checkpoint blockade. Understanding how TAMs and exhausted T cells are promoted and sustained in the TME is crucial to enhancing immunotherapy responses.
