Although most studies investigating tumorigenesis focus on genetic mutations, epigenetic reprogramming is emerging as a major driver of oncogenic transformation. Two recent studies trace epigenetic marks in cells from patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) to characterize the evolution of the epigenome in cancer.
