Ectopic expression of the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor in adrenal tissue results in GIP-dependent primary bilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (PBMAH), a rare form of Cushing syndrome. The cause of this ectopic GIP receptor expression was not understood. Now, a new study uncovers the molecular mechanism behind GIP-dependent PBMAH.
