Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones that bind to the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), which then enters the nucleus and regulates gene expression. These hormones are known to be secreted with a strong circadian rhythm; however, the rhythmic genomic actions of GR have never been characterized. A study in Molecular Cell has identified the molecular mechanisms for GR-controlled cycles of metabolism and demonstrates how these rhythms are affected by diet.
