A new study shows that obesity can result from decreased leptin gene (LEP) expression. Olof Dallner, Jeffrey Friedman and colleagues report that defects in LEP expression can cause a form of obesity that is characterized by reduced circulating levels of leptin. The authors found that this form of obesity is responsive to leptin therapy.
