Major histocompatibility complex II (MHC-II)+ antigen-presenting cancer-associated fibroblasts (apCAFs) have recently been found in pancreatic adenocarcinoma and breast cancer. In these cancer types, their role appears to be immunosuppressive. However, their presence in other cancer types and the extent of their functions in antigen presentation is less clear. Now, Kerdidani et al. have identified MHC-II-expressing CAFs in non-small-cell lung cancers where they appear to promote anti-tumour immunity.
