The use of semiconductor nanocrystals, also known as colloidal quantum dots, in colour-conversion light-emitting diodes (LEDs) enables simultaneous colour rendition of the illuminated objects and a good spectral overlap between the emission spectrum of the light source and the sensitivity of the human eye at a warm white colour temperature, which is a challenging task with conventional sources such as incandescent and fluorescent lamps and phosphor-based LEDs. Composed of seven chapters, this title summarizes the colour science of quantum dots for indoor and outdoor lighting, as well as for LED backlighting in displays.
