A recent Comment suggested a bottom-up (defined as “a community-based or autonomous”) approach to climate change adaptation to achieve equity and efficacy among communities1. We agree that climate change adaptation strategies require community-based solutions. However, in our view, it is not the lack of communal autonomy but the level of awareness2 and lack of means to acquire novel solutions that keep up with the evolving needs that negate ‘effective’ adaptation to climate change3.
