Visual representation of the magnitude of biological variation that exists between different individuals, and sources of technical variation that can occur due to differences in sequencing platform, errors, and bioinformatics. Due to the fact that plant breeders often use self-fertilization to develop cultivars prior to release, plants tend to have much less variation between individuals of the same cultivar than is seen between two out-crossing cattle of the same breed. The quantification and detection of sequence variation is exquisitely sensitive to differences in the sequencing and bioinformatics pipeline
