Corrigendum for de Graaf G, Buckley F, Skotko BG. Estimation of the number of people with Down syndrome in Europe. European Journal of Human Genetics. 29(3):402-410.

In our modeling of population prevalence for Down syndrome (DS), we unintentionally used an estimation based on applying survival rates from Model D (developed for the former East bloc) for Greece. The Figures in the Supplementary Materials for Greece are correct (model A was applied, which was developed for the non-former East bloc); however, in the main article the wrong DS population number for Greece was reported. This impacted the estimations for the population numbers for Southern Europe, non-former West bloc countries, and Europe as a total.

In the main article, we had reported that our model estimated 417,000 people with DS living in Europe as of 2015, and without elective terminations 572,000; this should be (using the right number for Greece) 419,000 and 574,000 instead. DS population prevalence was reported at 5.6 per 10,000; this should be 5.7 per 10,000. Population reduction rate is unchanged.

The percentage of people with DS under the age of 20 in Southern Europe was estimated at 24%; this should be 23%.

Reduction of population prevalence as a result of DS-related terminations was estimated at 33% in Southern Europe; this should be 32%.

The number of people with DS in Greece (Table 1 in the main article) was estimated at 5146, and in Southern Europe at 96,075. This should be 7035, and 97,964 instead.

Figure 3 in the main paper should be adapted for Greece, Southern Europe, Europe without former East bloc, and Europe total. In the Table below, the corrections are presented in red:

Changes in Fig. 4 regarding Southern Europe are very small; the corrected Figure for Southern Europe can be found in the Supplement, page 257.
