This publication is timely, factual, and welcome coming during the UK COVID-19 Inquiry chaired by the Rt Hon Baroness Heather Hallett.1The SARS-CoV-2 global pandemic affected everyone and, for many, continues to have an impact. Global data being collated by John Hopkins University stopped in March 2023, but in the UK the pandemic caused 325 deaths per 100,000 population.2 The UK's COVID fatality rate was lower than the USA (341 per 100,000) and some Eastern European countries. It was higher than our near European neighbours and the UK was a poor performer coming twentieth out of 204 countries for the highest number of COVID deaths.
