In a guest editorial in this issue of the BDJ, Habib Benzian calls for oral health, public health and wider health policy communities, organisations, civil society, the corporate sector and all stakeholders to be driven and inspired by the World Health Organisation's recently published Global Strategy on Oral Health, and to bring about meaningful change.1

BDJ Open's Global Oral Health Collection can be viewed at https://www.nature.com/collections/globaloralhealth and is currently open to submissions.

This collection of articles outlines prevalence, risk factors and the oral health-related quality of life of a number of oral health conditions globally. Included studies relate to caries, periodontitis, tooth loss, tooth wear, dental trauma and molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH), which aim to correlate oral health disorders with other health conditions. This offers the chance to assess and compare the various factors which lead to oral disease in different socio-economic systems, highlighting global inequalities in the burden of oral disease and access to dental healthcare.
