Tooth staining is a natural occurrence which may be induced by many factors. Although commonly associated with aesthetic concerns, tooth staining in the primary and permanent dentition may be an indicator of more serious underlying health problems. It is important for clinicians; current and aspiring, to be able to correctly recognise and diagnose tooth staining, as management largely depends on the type of staining present.1,2
