Specialty training (ST1) in orthodontics is notoriously competitive and, for young dentists hoping to pursue a career in orthodontics, this can be particularly daunting. Fortunately, Health Education England makes the Person Specification - a document that outlines what potential applicants must demonstrate (essential criteria) as well as other looked-for traits (desirable criteria).1 For hopeful applicants, this acts as a useful guide of how to tailor their post-graduate training in order to maximise their chances of a success.
