Impact of COVID-19 and the cancellation of the 2020 PAS Meeting on abstract publications

Nearly half of pediatric emergency medicine abstracts accepted to the 2017 Pediatric Academic Society (PAS) meeting were published in peer-reviewed journals within the three years just prior to the pandemic declaration.1 When coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) forced cancellation of the 2020 PAS meeting, the impact on subsequent publication was unknown. To examine the pandemic effect on the likelihood of publication, an indicator of academic productivity, we compared the 2020 to the 2017 abstract publication rate overall and by gender of the submitting author.

This is a retrospective cohort study using publicly available data. IRB review was not required.
