Methods: Analysis of perinatal and neonatal statistical data of Northern Rhineland.
Results: 693,516 births in the years 1988-1994. 75,745 macrosomic infants ≽4000g. 903 of them (1.2%) infants of diabetic mothers (idm). Controls: 575,533 infants with a birthweight (bw) between 2500g and 3999g. (Table)
15 macrosomic babies died during birth, 8 after vaginal delivery, 7 after secondary, none after primary cesarean section.
Conclusion: Idm have a significant higher morbidity than non-idm in many respects.
