Abstract 171
Background. Pre-and postnatal treatments with corticosteroid and surfactant have significantly reduced the neonatal mortality. Nevertheless, incidence of intraventricular haemorrhage (IVH) and bronchopulmonary displasia (BPD) has remained high.
Aim. To evaluate an early predicting model of IVH risk in low birth weight infants with RDS treated with porcine surfactant (Curosurf).
Subjects and methods. Surfactant treated newborns with a birth weight < 1500 g. In relation to statistical analysis, univariate analysis(χ2, Student t, and non-parametrics test) and multivariate analysis (logistic regression) on above sample to determine predictors of IVH. Multiple logistic regression analysis to assess the independent effects of these variables on IVH, revealed that gestational age, prenatal steroids, natal weight and FiO2 pre-SF were the significant contributors to the outcome variable. Table
Conclusion. To establish an effective prophylactic strategy, like early indomethacin treatments, early identification of perinatal IVH-related factors is mandatory.
