Abstract
The effect of mechanical deformation on endothermic peaks of aged amorphous Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films were studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Three deformation methods, uniaxial tension, uniaxial compression and densified compression were used. The results showed that after deformation, irrespective of tensile or compression, endothermic peaks disappeared with increase of the density. For compressed films followed by annealing, two endothermic peaks appeared. These findings can be explained on the basis of cohesional entanglements, which seem to be an important feature of physical aging of glassy polymers.
