Abstract
Aromatic polyamide–poly(methyl methacrylate) graft copolymers were prepared from condensation-type macromonomers. Dicarboxyl-terminated poly(methyl methacrylate) was copolycondensed with p-aminobenzoic acid in the presence of m-phenylenediamine using triphenylphosphite and pyridine. The resulting graft copolymers were characterized by their 1H NMR and IR spectra. The mechanical properties of poly(methyl methacrylate) or poly(vinyl chloride) films were improved upon addition of small amounts of the resulting graft copolymers.
