Abstract
Intrinsic viscosity measurements and turbidimetric titrations were made on a polydioxolane sample in a series of solvents to determine the solubility parameter. The Flory–Huggins interaction parameter was also used for the same purpose. The assigned solubility parameter, ∂=10.1 cal1/2cm−3/2, agrees well with the calculated from the attraction molar constants. Dilute solution properties were determined from osmometric and viscometric measurements on fractions of polydioxolane in tetrahydrofuran at 25°C. The data were interrelated and analyzed by the Orofino–Flory equation and a value found for the characteristic ratio <r−2>0/nl2 of 3.72 agreed quite well with the previously reported theoretical value.
