Igneous Rocks dredged from the Rockall Plateau

Abstract

Basalts with unexpected magnetic properties and granites from the Rockall Plateau are described. The magmas appear to have passed through a continental basement during the early Tertiary, when strong tensional conditions prevailed at plate margins in the North Atlantic.
