Search for Interstellar Silicate Absorption in Spectrum of VI Cyg No. 12

Abstract

Hackwell, Gehrz and Woolf1 have reported observations, extending to 11 µm, of the galactic centre and three reddened B stars. They report a measurable amount of absorption at 11 µm in the direction of the galactic centre which they attribute to interstellar silicates. No definite absorption feature was observed in the case of the reddened B stars, presumably because there is not enough interstellar extinction in the line of sight to these stars.
