CT imaging markers predict outcome of ischaemic stroke

Imaging profiles can accurately predict 90-day functional outcomes of patients with ischaemic stroke, according to new research. The new predictive model could be used to guide decisions about the use of thrombolysis for individual patients.

Heterogeneity between patients with stroke makes prediction of their functional outcomes difficult. Previous work has shown that multimodal CT imaging can be used to predict which patients will respond to reperfusion therapy, but specific and standardized parameters have not been established. In new work, Andrew Bivard and colleagues aimed to develop a predictive model on the basis of patient CT imaging profiles.
