Varicella zoster virus infection

Varicella zoster virus (VZV) causes varicella (chickenpox) and, upon reactivation following latency, zoster (shingles). The development of vaccines to reduce the disease burden, particularly in at-risk populations (for example, pregnant women and the elderly), are a current focus.
