Physics teaching in schools could be transformed by highlighting its role in the animal kingdom.

I had some wonderful physics teachers when I was at school. But for all the efforts and enthusiasm of my (thankfully excellent) teachers, a lot of my school physics syllabus back in 1980s Britain was eye-wateringly dull. Trolleys running down ramps. Thermometers measuring the enthalpy of ice melting. Something boring about Wheatstone bridges that I never really understood. Things have certainly changed a lot since my schooldays, with huge advances in our understanding of how people learn science coupled with a revolution in the use of IT and computing in the classroom.
