Laserlab Europe expands in third phase

The consortium that brought together laser research institutions from across Europe has been extended for three more years. The geographical expansion of the group, particularly in central and Eastern Europe and scientifically less well-developed countries, paints a picture for photonics in Europe.

Laserlab Europe coordinator Wolfgang Sandner (from the Max Born Institute for Nonlinear Optics and Short Pulse Spectroscopy, a Laserlab Europe III partner) pointed out that although laser research is a relatively young discipline, it has revolutionized almost all areas of physics and neighbouring sciences, including medicine, engineering, communications, materials research and manufacturing.
